NAVI MUMBAI: The commissioner of railway safety (CRS) is likely to undertake a trial run next week on the new Uran rail corridor before launching the maiden run to Ulwe.
The CRS approval will be the final nod for the service to start on the track.
The new corridor will enable residents of Ulwe and nearby areas to get a direct connect to CST and Panvel as there is a ‘Y’ bifurcation behind the NMMC headquarters in Belapur.
If the track is found to be safe without any faults then it may take just a few days for the train service to start. But if the CRS raises some issues then it may start around Diwali,’’ said a source.
However, there is still some work to be completed both by Cidco and Central Railway.
While Cidco was doing the asphalting work of the approach roads, CR is completing some unfinished works related to signalling, overhead wires and metal ballast on the tracks.
The test run will be on the 12km stretch out of total 27 km corridor. This is phase I of the corridor. The train will halt at two stations—Bamandongri and Kharpokar.
Later, there will be a halt at Targhar railway station that is under construction on stilts and is a major connect for the proposed CST elevated Metro.
CR will divert power from Panvel end for running the train as the sub station near Kille will take almost another year for construction. “C R has provided the connectivity,” Cidco said.
Cidco and CR that have a cost-sharing arrangement of 67:33 in the ongoing railway projects in the city did a joint inspection of the progress made last month.
MD Cidco, Lokesh Chandra along with a CR team led by chief administrative officer, S K Tewary held a joint inspection on September 17 of the Nerul-Belapur-Uran railway corridor.
Stations along phase I on the Uran corridor of the Rs 1,782 crore project will include Nerul, Seawoods, Belapur, Targhar, Bamandongri and Kharpokar.
